Around a week ago Tesla pushed out an update to Model S owners which enabled the car to drive itself. The car is able to move forward, read speed limit signs, brake, and even change lanes. There are still many functions that requires the drivers attention but this is definitely a step in the right dirrection towards fully autonomous vehicles.

The YouTube channel DragTimes has a 16 minute video showing of the Tesla Model S in its full glory. It should give you an idea of how the autopilot works and why everyone is talking about it.
