This Tiny Projector Creates a 200-Inch 4K Screen!

This is a 4K triple-laser projector that can throw an image up to 200 inches, has Google TV built in, does 120Hz gaming, and somehow weighs about 3 and a half pounds. Instead of getting permanently mounted on a ceiling, the whole thing folds down into a thin portable body. It’s the new XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K, and XGIMI says it’s the first portable projector that doesn’t ask you to compromise, so I put that claim to the test. (Thanks to XGIMI for sponsoring this video and sending it over.)

It’s genuinely one of the cleanest portable projectors I’ve tested: folded down it looks like a thin decorative square on a shelf, and at 1.55 kg it’s easy to carry under an arm or throw in a backpack. The flip stand that gives it its name lets you rotate the body to point anywhere, including the ceiling while you’re lying in bed, and you get two HDMI ports with eARC, two USB ports, audio out, and a backlit Bluetooth remote. Setup basically disappears thanks to auto keystone, autofocus, and ISA 5.0, which fits the image to the wall, dodges picture frames, and adapts to non-white walls. The RGB triple-laser outputs native 3840 by 2160, and the real optical zoom means you can go from 40 to 200 inches without losing resolution the way digital zoom does; colors are accurate with 110% BT.2020 coverage and Delta E under 1, plus HDR10 and HLG. At 1,600 ISO lumens you can still watch midday with the curtains closed, the Harman Kardon speakers sound full enough for a whole movie, and Google TV with Wi-Fi 6 means Netflix, YouTube, Disney Plus, and Prime Video run right on the projector. Gaming gets 1ms response at 1080p 120Hz with game mode on and auto keystone off, plus VRR and ALLM, which makes it great for party games and casual play on a 100-inch-plus screen. The cons: outdoors with any background noise you’ll want external speakers, and it still looks best in a dim room or at night, so it’s not a broad-daylight cookout projector.

Final thoughts: it feels like a full TV that folds up and fits in a backpack, with real 4K, lossless optical zoom, and solid built-in speakers; MSRP is $999, and at launch XGIMI was running 10% off for $899 plus a free portable screen depending on when you’re watching, so check the link in the video description for the current offer.
