Stealth is Back! Black iPhone 18 Pro Max Unboxing & First Impressions!
Black is back on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the matte stealth finish looks exactly as clean as you’d hope — until your fingerprints get involved. At $1,300 for the base Pro Max I unboxed here, it’s the understated Batman look in the lineup: all-black from the front so the bezels disappear, with a flash that stays a little too obvious on the camera island. I pulled it out of the box, smudged it on purpose, lined it up with Glacier, silver, and burgundy, and shared honest first impressions for anyone who wants stealth over color. (TAC sponsored this video and sent the Matrix Grip case for the all-black look, but everything here is my honest take.)
Matte black looks fantastic out of the box — I briefly wondered if I preferred it to silver — but it’s also the fingerprint champion of the set, so if you want it forever clean you’ll want a case or skin. After a few swipes it looks “used aluminum” in person and worse on camera; some people will call that character, and I’m not one of them for daily carry. Lined up with the other three (Pros and Maxes mixed), smudge order is obvious, and for me the visual duos are silver with Glacier and burgundy with black: silver is still my favorite to look at, Glacier is what I actually bought, burgundy was the biggest surprise, and black isn’t my vibe because of the upkeep. From the front black wins immersion — no colored rails framing the display like Glacier — and a black Matrix Grip case with the black MagSafe ring nails the all-black aesthetic with real side grip. Box is still USB-C to USB-C only; smaller Dynamic Island and the usual 18 Pro Max upgrades apply. If you want stealth that matches every outfit and you don’t mind wiping it down, this is the one — just don’t expect it to stay showroom-clean.

Final thoughts: stealth is back and it looks incredible for about thirty seconds — then it’s a case phone or a character phone — so if you want zero-maintenance color, pick Glacier or silver; if you want Batman, go black and own the smudges.
