You Can Now Beta Test Microsoft's Chromium Edge Browser on Your Mac & PC!
For some time now, Microsoft has been working on a better version of their Edge browser that is built on Chromium. Microsoft says that they are adopting Chromium in order ”to create better web compatibility for our customers, and less fragmentation of the web for all web developers”. This new Edge browser has had Canary and Dev builds but is now stable enough that Microsoft has released a beta that anyone can try out. Yesterday, Microsoft sent out the following email to Windows Insiders…
A little while ago, we shared that some changes were coming to Microsoft Edge and invited Windows Insiders to download the first preview builds of the next version of Microsoft Edge and share your thoughts.
We released our first Canary and Dev builds in April, and since then, the Microsoft Edge team has made a lot of progress. Today, we’re excited to share with you that the Microsoft Edge Beta channel is now available on all supported versions of Windows and macOS.
Beta is the final preview channel which will come online before the release of the next version of Microsoft Edge and major updates can be expected roughly every six weeks.
We appreciated all the feedback Insiders shared on the Canary and Dev builds and would love to continue to hear from Insiders like you on the Beta builds.1
When you download the Beta, you will see support for 14 languages, and features that have already cleared quality testing in Dev and Canary, such as new tab page, dark theme, and extensions. If you’re interested in checking out some of our previously announced features, like tracking prevention and Collections, you can enable experimental flags. Learn more about these features and how to enable flags.
We’re looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Beta channel and everything we have been working on. Your feedback and engagement are what helps us improve.
Thank you for helping us along the way and we hope you’ll continue to be a part of the journey.
The Windows Insider and Microsoft Edge Teams
I’ve been playing with the beta on my MacBook and it definitely looks good and is very speedy. You can test out and download the Edge Beta at MicrosoftEdgeInsider.com.
